THE HATHOR RING

Divine Wisdom, Earthly Power, and the Celestial Luminary.

The visual archetype of a goddess crowned with sweeping horns cradling a celestial luminary is one of the oldest symbols of sovereignty, nurturing and wisdom that connects earth and cosmos.

During the Egyptian Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE), the goddess Hathor was depicted wearing an upward-curving cow horns crown that held a blazing sun disk, symbolizing her role as a nurturing sky mother and her connection to the solar creator Ra. This powerful iconography spread throughout the Bronze and Iron Ages (c. 1500–500 BCE) to other deities, notably the Levantine Astarte, and later Isis. Thousands of miles away, the Miao people of southwestern China developed a strikingly identical silhouette, embodied by the legendary goddess of beauty, Yang'asha. She is crowned with a traditional silver headdress featuring massive water buffalo horns and a radiating luminary disk. In the early 20th century, this ancient archetype was consciously resurrected to represent wisdom in the form of the High Priestess tarot card. When designing the Rider-Waite-Smith deck in 1909 CE, artist Pamela Colman Smith stripped away the card's medieval "Female Pope" tiara and replaced it with a deliberate homage to Hathor and Isis. The High Priestess wears a full moon cradled between two crescent horns.

Carved in black onyx and green aventurine, The Hathor Ring by KATRA Studio is resurrecting this shared ancestral archetype. Presented as a modern, wearable artifact, it is a tangible bridge across millennia, reminding us that the ancient reverence for nature, inner wisdom, and our connection to the cosmos remains just as essential to the human spirit today.
